Features and Benefits

CommScope’s Video Stitching Engine™ (VSE) converts HTML applications into streaming video, which enables the following innovative features:

  • Automated Content Generation for personalized and localized content
  • Operator User Experience (UX) Modernization across deployed set-top boxes
  • Budget Friendly IP Video Migration
  • ABR (Adaptive Bit Rate) Media to MPEG Conversion
Automated Content Generation

VSE enables server-side execution of HTML Apps for fast, efficient, and automated generation of video products for a variety of use cases including personalized channels, and data driven videos such as weather, sports, news, and short form personalized and localized content. Modern HTML and AI tools can be used to innovate and rapidly build new videos!

Video, content, and custom data feeds are combined into any number of localized or personalized video assets that are then processed and packaged for delivery via Content Delivery Network (CDN) or video operator infrastructure.

Operator User Experience (UX) Modernization

For devices that do not have a browser or sufficient graphical capabilities, VSE virtualizes the navigation of the user interface by translating the UI to video and streaming to set-top boxes. The approach provides a secure, efficient, and cost-effective delivery solution with capabilities integrated into the operator’s existing video headends.

  • VSE enables operators to deploy HTML-based user interfaces and add third party HTML-based applications on non-browser-based set-top boxes.
  • VSE virtualizes the HTML interface in the network so that subscribers receive the same services, irrespective of set-top box model (older and newer-generation).
  • VSE maintains the security and integrity of both broadcast and online video streams, protecting video content with the Conditional Access (CA) schema supported locally in the set-top box.
  • VSE converts DRM video segments into a CA secured MPEG2 Transport Stream for QAM or DOCSIS delivery of online video streams.

VirtualUX

Budget Friendly IP Video Migration

By virtualizing the access to video services within headends, VSE enables older and less-capable set-top boxes to access new IP Video Services like Network PVR (NPVR), Catch-Up TV, VOD, Linear, and Advertising. Therefore, this budget friendly solution helps operators evolve their core video systems to IP by accelerating decommissioning of older backend systems while maintaining and improving overall customer experiences.VSE allows both employees and budgets to focus on new, innovative IP Video services across all subscribers while freeing them from older backend systems. This leads to better customer satisfaction for improved retention and growth. New service examples include personalized channels; multi-view, AI driven content discovery; informational/data services; improved VOD navigation; short form video access; and other 3rd party video service enablement.

Additionally, VSE can bridge the migration gap across legacy and new video services. For example, migration from Local PVR to Network PVR (NPVR) can be deployed without impacting customer recordings.

ABR (Adaptive Bit Rate) Media to MPEG Conversion

VSE enables real-time conversion of Adaptive Bit Rate (ABR) media (HLS and DASH) into MPEG transport streams while adhering to manifest and playlist definitions. This gives older set-top boxes access to content and advertising which unifies content libraries and distribution.
