In Storm’s Aftermath, CommScope Delivers

After April's storms, CommScope's cable transport team snaps into action delivering broadband cable and water to customers in Alabama and Tennessee.

Tractor-trailer trucks are ubiquitous on US highways….they always seem to be in front of me when I’m driving! But each truck is crucial to the economy and represents an important delivery to someone, including CommScope’s customers. You see, CommScope is unique amongst network infrastructure suppliers in that we maintain our own truck fleet. We deliver cabling and other products that are used by customers in their cable television and wireless networks in the US. So, when you see a CommScope-branded truck on the highway, you know that an important shipment of our network infrastructure solutions is about to happen!

But there are some circumstances that are even more important than usual—such as what transpired in late April and continues today. The devastation across parts of the US South after killer tornadoes struck April 27-28 is heart-breaking and almost unimaginable. As tens of thousands of people in Alabama, Tennessee and nearby states attempt to cope with the storm’s tragic aftermath, the painful process of rebuilding communities and infrastructure has begun. The networks of two of CommScope’s largest broadband network customers were among those seriously affected by the storms, and for CommScope that represented an instant call to action.

Within 36 hours of the tornadoes tearing through Alabama and Tennessee, our first truck arrived on scene with supplies needed by the two MSOs to repair and rebuild their local networks. In fact, we have dedicated two drivers and trucks to make continuous runs between one of our factories in North Carolina and our customers’ sites in Alabama and Tennessee. The quick availability of our products—delivered by CommScope’s Cable Transport team—is vital to our customers’ ability to get their networks back on line, and to getting the affected population connected once again.

And that’s not all.

If there is space available on the trucks, we load fresh water for delivery to the affected sites, as well. The pallets of water are given to our two customers, who distribute them to grateful local residents who are without fresh drinking water.

There are many people and businesses who are helping these communities recover. While our part is a small one, it gives us tremendous pride and satisfaction knowing that our customers can depend on us in their times of need.

Thank you to the CommScope team that is supporting this effort.
